ALEX SIPIAGIN QUINTET IN MIAMI OCTOBER 25, 2011
1/28/2012 2:28:04 AM - 2011 has been a great year so far, with non stop tours and performances throughout the world with different projects, including the Michael Brecker Tribute Quintet, Kenny Werner Quintet, Monday Michiru band, Mingus Dynasty, Dave Holland Octet, and also my own.  I continue to teach in Groningen's Prins Claus Conservatory in Holland, as well as conducting clinics around the world, most recently in New Zealand, Australia, Taiwan and Japan as a Yamaha artist and through other music institutions.  My recent release with Criss Cross entitled "Destinations Unknown" got a 4 star review in Downbeat, and getting accolades through various jazz publications.  A new project, also under Criss Cross, will be coming out in September, a collective project with Seamus Blake, Dave Kikoski, Boris Kozlov, Donald Edwards and myself, called Opus 5, with the album appropriated named "Introducing Opus 5."

I want to mention a few upcoming solo performances with my quintet, namely the Miami concert at the prestigious EBS Auditorium in Homestead, just 10 minutes from downtown Miami, featuring Seamus Blake, Adam Rogers, Boris Kozlov and Nate Smith on October 25th (see link below).  I will be following this concert with a 2-night performance at Smalls Jazz Club in NYC on November 30 & December 1 with Donny McCaslin, Adam Rogers, Boris Kozlov and Nate Smith.  Hope to see some of you there.

SKYPE LESSONS WITH ALEX SIPIAGIN -- UPDATE FALL 2011
Update for my Skype students, present and future:  For the month of November, I'll be grounded in New York and will be available to teach.  Because it's unusual for me to be home for such a long period of time, I am making available package lessons for the month of November, which is 4-5 lessons for a special price.

I have been teaching at the Prins Claus Conservatory in Groningen as part of their NY comes to Groningen series, now on my 5th year, and became a Yamaha artist last year and often asked to give master classes/private lessons worldwide.  The internet and in particular Skype has made it easier to communicate with people from different states and countries, and I am utilizing this tool to make available lessons via Skype.  If you are interested, contact me at alex@alexsipiagin.com and we can come up with a date and time to work through a lesson.  Half hour and full hour sessions are available as one offs, or we can even come up with a plan for a series of lessons.

Earlier in 2011, Seamus Blake and I had an idea to pick up members of the Mingus unit who we've been performing together with for years and make a collective project.  And so started Opus 5.  The album features Donald Edwards, Boris Kozlov, Dave Kikoski, Seamus and myself, with compositions and arrangements from all of us.  Just released in September, 2011, it's available now.  Check it out.
